Bombay Grill, which has taken the place of the old India Grill downtown, has a very convenient (fast) lunch buffet, which is good for those who work nearby. It's relatively small, but has the usual selections and accompaniments: butter chicken, paneer, goat curry, chicken masala, rice, chutneys, etc. Everything I had was okay, although the naan was a bit tough and chewy. Also, the buffet isn't really vegetarian friendly (very limited selection for them), and things were a less spicy than I'd like (although they do provide hot peppers to take it up a notch). The staff was incredibly friendly and very prompt. The premises were clean and child friendly. Overall, it's a good place to stop for a casual meal downtown, if you aren't too picky about Indian food.

Excellent food and very clean place. Food came out super fast, and service was great. This is one of the only Indian places to actually bring out real green chilies on request. We had mango lassis, aloo tikki, samosa chat, palak paneer and eggplant bharta for our vegetarian dishes. Each was very flavorful and well-prepared. My husband ordered chicken tikka on a hot plate. He said its rare for it to come out like that, and it was actually the best he'd had in Florida. Flawless Fork rated this restaurant a 5/5 for its cleanliness, which gives me even more enthusiasm. That is extremely rare for any restaurant! I would recommend anyone to go there for some authentic Indian food!

No star Bombay Grill. Horrible attitude of server name Sanjeeb. He made me(party of twelve ) feel unwelcome. I spent $282.00 Saturday night for a friend's 50th birthday surprised dinner. If it was not for that occasion I would have walked out of Bombay Grill.

This is really solid Indian food. If you have never had a mango lassi, then you should try one. The vegetable pakora is a really good appetizer. I usually stick to three dishes. I like the lamb curry (the goat curry was also good), lamb rogan josh is delicious, and the chicken tikka masala is in one of the better sauce to ever dunk naan bread in. If you want an Indian food fix in downtown St. Pete, this is the spot.

Went for lunch buffet. Nothing bad, but the only thing really stand out was the mango "pudding". So don't go expecting great Indian cuisine, but it's also a solid choice for lunch

I came here for the first time for lunch on a holiday and they did not have buffet. I will definitely be back as this is the best Indian food I have had in 10 years in Tampa Bay. The decor is dark, elegant and nicely air conditioned. The lamb curry was fantastic. I put the curry sauce on everything (papadum, aloo tikki) and could easily drink it. I ordered it "medium" spice level which was just enough heat. The service was perfect...friendly, helpful and prompt. I highly recommend. The only drawback you will find is the know-it-all patrons that infest every urban - area ethnic restaurant... like the people in back of me that keep sending everything back because it's not like NYC.

This is in addition to my last review. My friends and I returned here for another dinner meeting. This time we expanded our order to goat Vindaloo - very hot, Garlic Nann bread, Stuffed Chicken Nann, and the Pork - medium hot. Everything was above average. Moist and perfectly cooked and seasoned to order. We will return again!

As a vegetarian, I was super happy to eat this lunch buffet. At the time of my visit they had way more veggie options than meat ones. My friend with me enjoyed the butter chicken, but I can't speak for it. They had samosas and vegetable pakora as, multiple salads and a dessert. My glass of water wasn't the cleanest I've ever drank from, but the rest of the restaurant was clean enough. Will come back if I'm in the area and dreaming of curried veg.

When I entered the place and saw the "loose" window A/C unit running on the bar (see photo), I almost walked right back out. Seemed sketchy to say the least. The food? Let's just say the items on the buffet seemed very old and dry. The naan (mentioned in the previous review) was absolutely the toughest, gnarliest naan I have ever experienced at an Indian buffet. It was inedible. I opted for the butter chicken, veggie pakora, and rice - since they seemed to appear edible. The veggie pakoras turned out to be almost as tough as the naan, and had clearly been on the steam table for an hour or more past their prime. Going on a mining expedition, I was able to drill past the outer crust of the rice to locate a pocket of inner moistness. It was fine, as was the butter chicken. Also really enjoyed the tamarind chutney sauce. Final oddity - the mango lassi we ordered was served warm. It was edible, but that just seemed weird. Positives: Very nice/prompt service. They did bring out fresh naan when requested (which was perfectly serviceable naan). However, they piled it on top of the mummified drywall-naan! Two buffets were 21.00, which is fair for downtown St Pete. But the value was lacking and I would not return. Expect this place to go the way of the previous tenant India Grill.

Food was nicely prepared, and water was always refilled when ever necessary. However, the service was very "do it yourself" and the atmosphere was very dark. Very filling, also the food is spicier than expected.

Absolutely pleased with the service and cuisine at Bombay. I enjoyed the Chicken Vindaloo (which I always pronounce as voodoo to make my girl giggle) while she entrusted the chef to the butter chicken (the house specialty). The lead gave us both an appraising glance when we asked for hot and the heat of the dishes was on point. Nothing like 'I can't feel my face' hot but certainly enough to get your attention. Plenty of rice to help make the meal and the garlic naan is never to be missed. A wonderful experience at Bombay Grill!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. They have a buffet for about $11 or you can order from regular menu. We got sat right away and decided to get the buffet. There was a good amount of sauces and the cold bar was nice. I personally did not understand what the cabbage in mayo was doing there and was not to fond of the chickpea salad. However, i liked everything in the warm side of the buffet. The dishes included: naan, vegetable pakore, cabbage mattar, chana punjabi, aloo ghobi and palak paneer. I am vegetarian so i can not attest to the chicken dishes but the vegetable ones were good. All in all it was really good. Will return for sure. I wonder how it is for dinner.

Loved this place when it was India Grill and love it now that it is Bombay Grill. My favorite Indian restaurant and love the location in DTSP. Staff is always friendly and attentive and the size of the restaurant is very personable. It's a hidden gem. Have not been for the lunch buffet but I am sure it's great.

Disappointing. Went to the buffet - my boyfriend had the butter chicken & a variety of other foods from the buffet, I ordered chicken tikka masala (spicy) & garlic naan. Butter chicken was incredibly rich, as was the chicken tikka masala. Both tasted strongly of butter & the chicken tikka was not as spicy as I had hoped when I ordered extra spicy. Naan was decent. Service fast. Overall, unimpressed.

I am giving 1 star only because I cannot give zero. The most pathetic food I have ever paid for in my life, and I paid for it because I don't like to complain if food is free, and I just cannot let go of it. Papri Chat was bland, Samosa Chat was a pile of tomatoes, Mutter Paneer was uncooked, poori was oily, veg pakoras was salty and the worst was what the gave out as chicken biriyani....oily rice and uncooked chicken.....I can cook better food with my eyes closed and using only my left leg.....Advice to the owner, please eat the food you served today, and then review my review.

Not the best Indian fare I've had, but I'm so glad they are downtown mixing up the lunch options. Some days like today, I just need a buffet and lots of curry. Until someone puts a Jamaican joint down here, I'm digging it. The service is great and it should work real well for vegetarians.

Had super friendly/quick service at Bombay Grill and am already thinking about when I can go back to try even more dishes :) I had the Butter Chicken (one of my faves) and ordered it hot despite the somewhat alarmed look I got in response. It had some kick, but I definitely could have handled it hotter. Awesome flavor and very generous portions - I couldn't even finish mine which is pretty out of the ordinary. Wish the naan would have been thicker/bit more doughy but that's just me. Haven't tried their lunch buffet yet but have heard wonderful things. Will have to put it on the list...

This place is great. Arsh, is the most attentive server in St. Pete. The food is very good. Definitely a weekly spot. Glad they opens up on central.

Staff was fine. Service was fine. Convenient location for downtown St Pete businesses. I love going to Indian lunch buffets. This one disappointed. Not many choices. Food was bland. That made me sad. But when I was charged $11.75, then I felt robbed. If it was $9, I would've left satisfied enough and given it three stars. Only nine bucks, I would've thought. But $13 including tip....not worth it.

Convinence is there but the food isn't great. Not worth the stop. The Indian at Moon Under Water is significantly better.

I was there yesterday had dinner at around 4:30. Food was ok not very great. The one problem I had was with one vegetable curry that I ordered I.e malai Kofta. Out of the four kofta I think one they added was a meat kofta rather vegetable. I asked them to check but no they didn't come with a answer. I am sure that it was meat kofta that they served to a vegetarian. So all vegetarian be very very careful.

I'm a regular here. The food is great. Some of the best pakoras I've had anywhere. Fish tikka and vegetable makhani are probably my two favorite dishes. The service makes this place a real winner. Arsh is the best! She is sweet, funny and always makes our meal a delight.
